RO issues show cause notice to Monserrate

Panaji, Sep 22 (UNI) The Returning Officer for Taleigao Constituency Sabaji Shetye today issued a showcause notice to Goa Education Minister and Taleigao MLA Atanasio (Babush) Monserrate as to why action should not be taken against him for submitting false education qualifications in an affidavit.

The notice has given the Education Minister 15 days to show cause, failing to do so would evoke action as deemed fit, a release issued said.

The Returning Officer has also sent a copy of NGO Utt Goenkara spokesman Advocate Aires Rodrigues complaint against Mr Monserrate in the matter.

Mr Rodrigues had alleged that Mr Monserrate, in an affidavit submitted during the Goa Legislative Assembly election held in May 2007, had lied that he had completed SSC from St Theresa's High School, Bandra in Mumbai, whereas a letter from the headmaster of the school had revealed that Mr Monserrate, admitted on June 19, 1975 in class six, had left the school halfway on September 7, 1978 in class eight.
