Malaria outbreak reported in Manipur

Imphal, Sep 22 (UNI) A malaria outbreak has been reported in Tamenlong district of Manipur.

Sources said so far about 16 persons have died during the last four months in Tamei sub-division of Tamenglong district, adding a large numbers of villagers were also reportedly afflicted with malaria. There is no proper medical facilities in the area, they said.

The villagers have no access to any sort of medical aid and medicine due to the distance and bad communication system. Many villages in Tamei sub division have no proper road connectivity.

Meanwhile the District-Level Development Coordinating Federation (Tamenlong) President P Damsuak said memoranda were submitted through the DC Tamenglong and Awangbou Newmai MLA to the government seeking medical and other form of assistance for the entire district.

The memoranda said the public health centre at Oinamlong in Tamenglong was occupied by 55BN F Coy BSF demanding that security personnel be shifted and adequate medical staff be deployed.
