Kylie Minogue spearheads campaign to fight child abuse
London, Sep 22 : Pop diva Kylie Minogue has joined forces with British tabloid The Sun and charity ChildLine to fight child abuse and violence.
After seeing the growing rate of victimized child callers, The 'Kids' hitmaker is backing a new three-year campaign called The Child's Voice Appeal to boost the vital phone helplines for the vulnerable children.
The campaign will also raise money to make the help available to children through phone, online and by text.
"Finding the courage to tell someone about being abused is one of the most difficult decisions a child will ever have to make," The Sun quoted Kylie as saying.
"Sadly their cries for help are not always heard because ChildLine is unable to speak to every child who rings the 0800 1111 number," she added.
The NSPCC has joined forces with the ChildLine to help tackle the problem.
"Last year we received 2.3million calls from over half a million children, many calling more than once in their attempts to get through." The charity's founder and patron Esther Rantzen said.
With 18 percent calls from children suffering from bullying the most common problem, 13 percent from family relationships, 10 percent from physical abuse, eight percent from sexual abuse, six percent from reality of life, five percent from concern for others and four from pregnancy, the campaign will be increasing its call centres.
The call centres will comprise of efficient and worthy counsellor to help children tackle stress and advice them on any given problem.
