Women protest against liquor bar's opening

Yavatmal, Sep 21: Women of this district staged a unique agitation to oppose opening of a liquor bar there.

They staged a sit-in inside the bar to register their protest and demand that the establishment be closed down in village Ghonsa, about 120 km from here. Hundreds of women stormed the bar and demanded to be served meals as the establishment has licence to function only as a restaurant.

The sit-in was ended only late in the evening. The women had tied 'rakhees' on the wrist of District Collector Sanjay Deshmukh last week to press for the demands.
