Suspected SIMI activist questioned in Akola
Akola, Sep 21: A suspected activist of the Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) was questioned by police here, after some news channels telecast footage showing him with Abdul Subhan alias Tauqeer Qureshi, the prime suspect in the New Delhi serial blasts case.
The suspected activist, identified as Waqar Ul Hussain, was taken into custody and questioned before being let off yesterday, police sources said. Incidentally, Hussain had been working as a teacher in a school run by Akola Municipal Corporation (AMC), but was dismissed from service a year ago for his alleged links with SIMI.
Police took Hussain in for questioning after they recognised him as one of the men seen in the television footage on Tauqeer, the sources said. A report of the questioning had been sent to the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) in Mumbai, they added.
Late last week, a section of the electronic media telecast video footage that it claimed had been shot some years ago, showing Tauqeer at a function with Waqar.
