Heavy rain kills 39 people in Himachal Pradesh
Shimla, Sept 21 : At least 39 people have been killed and many injured in heavy rains that continued for fourth-consecutive day in Himachal Pradesh today.
Resident said that around twenty makeshift shops and a dozen houses at the famous Tibetan market came crashing down due to the landslides.
"We depend on these shops for our livelihood all throughout the year. There were around 20 shops here and today nothing is left. All are buried under the debris after the landslide," said Tsering, President, Tibetan Business Association.
Traffic is not plying on the Hindustan-Tibet road beyond Wangtoo in Kinnaur. Kulu and Manali Districts also remained cut off from the rest of the state along the Chandigarh -Manali National Highway.
Water and telephone services have been disrupted at many places.
Teams of army and police have been sent to Rohtang Pass to rescue the stranded people. Operation is on to remove debris and takes out the trapped people and dead bodies.
