Exhibition on India's democratic journey
Chandigarh, Sep 21 (UNI) Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee today inaugurated an exhibition tracing the growth and development of democratic traditions in the country in the complex of Haryana Vidhan Sabha.
Entitled as 'Indian Parliamentary Democracy: A Journey Forward', the exhibition has been organised by the Parliamentary Museum and Archives Division of Lok Sabha Secretariat and Haryana Vidhan Sabha Secretariat in collaboration with the Directorate of Advertising and Visual Publicity (DAVP) as a part of the ongoing Conference of Presiding Officers and Secretaries of Legislative Bodies in India here.
The exhibition showcases the Indian federal system and the legislative set-up in different states of the country, with particular emphasis on the legislative activities in Haryana.
Photographs related to Imperial Legislative Council, Council of States, Central Legislative Assembly and Constituent Assembly have also been shown. It also highlights the evolution and origin of Speaker and importance of Presiding Officers and Secretaries Conference.
During the exhibition the scanned copy of the Constitution of Indian can be accessed by the visitors on a computer multi-media.
Also available on computer multimedia are programmes on ancient democratic heritage, legislative reforms, Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha and State Legislatures buildings. Films related to important events during the Indian Freedom Movement and the election process in India can also been seen.
