Cong asks share in state cabinet: Karunanidhi

Tiruchirapalli, Sep 21: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK President M Karunanidhi on Sunday, Sep 21 said if the Congress High Command asked share in the state cabinet, the party Executive and General Council would discuss the matter and take a suitable decision on this.

Addressing a press conference here, the Chief Minister said he had so far not received any official plea from the Congress in this regard, but came to know through the press. To a question, Mr Karunanidhi said the party Executive and General Council would meet and decide whether the elections to the state Assembly also go along with the coming Lok Sabha polls. Asked about the possibility of advanced polls to the Lok Sabha, he said he was not sure on this.

Regarding the implementation of the Sethusamudram Ship Channel Project (SSCP), he said it was not on his part to comment on this. There was a case already pending before the Supreme Court, he noted.

Reminding that leaders like Periyaar E V Ramasamy, Annadurai and Kamaraj, who were dreamed on the project, he called up on the people of the state to rally behind the SSCP for its early implementation.
