DUJ condemns Govt decision on foreign news magazine editions
New Delhi, Sep 20 (UNI) The Delhi Union of Journalists(DUJ) today condemned the Government decision to allow publication of foreign news magazines in partnership with Indian promoters.
Describing the decision as '' a step by step surrender to foreign news cartels and their chums in India,'' the DUJ said the decision was violative of the Industrial Policy Resolution of 1956 which reflected the urges and aspirations of Indian nationalism.
The permission for foreign direct investment (FDI) was not only violative of the 1956 Resolution but also had serious implications for the country's sovereignty and consensus-based foreign policy, Union president S K Pandey said in a statement here.
He said called for greater unity among media bodies taking into account the large-scale retrenchments following foreign entry in select media.
Reviewing the Print Media policy, the Union Cabinet had on Friday allowed publication of India editions of foreign magazines and periodicals falling in the news and current affairs category on the condition that publishers of such editions would not be allowed to have more than 26 per cent foreign investment.
