Salwa Judum: SC takes serious note of allegations of torture
New Delhi, Sep 19 (UNI) Taking serious note of the allegations of torture and harassment of innocent people by those given arms under the Salwa Judum movement to tackle the menace of Naxalites, the Supreme Court today told the Chhattisgarh government to take remedial steps as soon as possible.
The Supreme Court also directed the Centre and the state government to respond to the NHRC report, which was submitted to the apex court in a sealed cover before the next date of hearing, which is October 23.
The apex court also told the state government to implement the safeguards and recommendations of NHRC as soon as possible to ensure that the innocent people were not subjected to any harassment or torture at the hands of those taking undue advantage of the arms supplied to them by the state govt.
