Four suspected militants shot dead in Manipur

Imphal, Sep 19 (UNI) Four suspected militants were shot dead by police here last evening.

''We were informed of militants coming to Thangal bazaar around 1630 hrs following which a team of Imphal West police started search operation, SSP, Imphal West, L Kailun today said.

During the course of the search near Hotel Anand Continental, the police team saw few people running away.

When the commandos started chasing, one of them tried to hurl a hand grenade. In retaliation, police resorted to firing resulting in the death of three.

In another incident, a combined team of Imphal East police commandos and 32 Assam Rifles shot dead a suspected militant yesterday at Keirao Bitra in Imphal East. One 9 mm pistol along with four live cartridges were recovered from his possession.

The bodies were yet to be identified and kept at the morgue of Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), police informed.
