CM is shielding Monseratte: Utt Goenkara

Panaji, Sep 19 (UNI) Goan NGO Utt Goenkara spokesman advocate Aires Rodrigues today accused Chief Minister Digambar Kamat of shielding State Education minister Atanasio(Babush) Monseratte, who allegedly provided false information in a affidavit about his educational qualification.

Mr Rodrigues alleged that Mr Kamat was deterring government officers from taking action against Monseratte.

He said the Returning Officer, who was functioning under the Election Commission, should be allowed to work without any political interference, as filing false affidavit or declaration was a serious offence.

He said in view of the seriousness of the offence, police could have themselves sought permission from the court to investigate the matter, which was technically non-cognizable, but had failed to do so for obvious reasons.

Mr Rodrigues also said he would seek directions for police investigation in the matter from Panaji Judicial Magistrate First Class Court tomorrow.
