Bihar Police foil bank robbery, gun down two dacoits

Muzaffarpur, Sep 19 (UNI) The Bihar police today foiled an attempt to loot a public sector bank near here and gunned down two bank robbers.

Superintendent of Police Sudhangshu Kumar said acting on a tip-off that a gang of six dacoits had assembled near the Brahmapur branch of Punjab National Bank (PNB)for the purpose of looting the bank, a special team of state armed police rushed to the spot and challenged the gang members.

But instead of surrendering, the dacoits opened fire on the police team forcing them to retaliate immediately. In the ensuing encounter two dacoits were killed on the spot, while the other members fled.

Two revolvers and some live cartridges were later recovered from the spot. There was, however, no casualty from the police team.

The entire area has been cordonned off and a massive search operation has been launched to nab the miscreants, the SP said, adding that the bodies had been sent for post-mortem.
