Athlete murdered in Kanpur

Kanpur, Sep 19(UNI) A 28-year-old national athlete and son of former international volleyball player Manjit Singh was shot dead late last night near his Govind nagar residence.

Superintendent of police Daynand Mishra said here today that the deceased Manjit singh alias Meenu after taking his dinner last night was walking out side his house when some assailants shot at him.

Manjeet sustained bullet injuries on his head and was rushed to Lala Lajpat Rai hospital where doctors declared him brought dead.

The SP said the reason behind the murder could not be ascertained so far but two people were taken into custody.

The deceased Manjeet was a state level Hammer throw player and was recently selected in the national team .

Manjeet, was also engaged in the business of auto-parts in Kanpur and his father Surendra Singh Rayal was also an international volleyball player and also associated with state volleyball association.

After post mortem the body of Manjit was given to his family member and his crimation was done today.
