Another Garib Rath rake rolls out of RCF

Kapurthala, Sep 19 (UNI) Railway Board, Member Mechanical R K Rao rolled out he 17th Garib Rath rake for Northern Railway at Rail Coach Factory (RCF) here today.

The AC coaches of Garib Rath train having a passenger carrying capacity of 78 berths are instrumental in providing cheap AC travel facility to the common man. The cost of travel by Garib Rath is cheaper by 40 per cent as compared to other AC 3-tier service.

These coaches have been provided with improved interior furnishing and Madhubani paintings.

Mr Rao visited the workshop and inspected the AC 3 tier coach with stainless steel lavatory and prototype of low cost stainless steel non-AC coach with air suspension manufactured by RCF. He also inspected the first RCF built 84-berth sleeper coach in which capacity has been increased by 17 per cent at a marginal cost.

Mr Rao also inaugurated the 20,000th coach produced by RCF.

Addressing the RCF officers, mr Rao said that the passenger traffic was growing at the rate of 12 per cent to 16 per cent per annum and there was a need to increase the manufacturing capacity to cope up with the growing demand of coaches.

On this occasion RCF General Manager S K Suri said RCF is at the threshold of introducing stainless steel coaches for all trains in near future.
