Atiq, associate of Tauqir killed in Delhi encounter
New Delhi, Sep 19: Following Ahmedabad blasts key accused, Abu Bashar's lead, an encounter between the Special cell of 150 Delhi Police and Huji terrorists, in a 4 storey building in Jamia Nagar of East Delhi on Friday, Sep 19 killed two terrorists and left two policemen injured. Sources report that there were five terrorists inside the house of L 18, Bathla House, near Khaleela Mosque. One terrorist is held the other two terrorists escaped from the house.
One of the dead has been identified as Atiq alias Basheer and is said to be an associate of Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) activist Tauqir. The terrorist are in the age group of twenty.
Special Cell Joint Commissioner Karnail Singh confirmed, "There were a total of five terrorist at L-18. Two have been shot dead and one has been arrested while two managed to escape."
Three
police
officials
were
also
injured
in
the
encounter.
Inspector
Mohan
Chand
Sharma,
who
led
the
team,
a
head
constable
and
one
constable
were
injured
in
the
heavy
exchange
of
fire.
They
have
been
admitted
to
Holy
Family
Hospital.
The
condition
of
Sharma
is
stated
to
be
critical.
Bashar identified the house in Jamia Nagar where he along with Delhi serial blasts mastermind Mohammad Subhan Qureshi alias Tauqir had taken shelter. He reportedly identified four places - two from North West District and one from South District - where some terrorists could be hiding.
Officials also said the area was under watch since Thursday, Sep 18 evening.
The Police have recovered an AK-47 gun, 2 pistols, literature and documents with codes from them. Forensic team have arrived at the spot and are picking up clues from the location.
A special team of officers from National Security Guards (NSG) have rushed to the area to battle the terrorists holed up in a house close by. Soon after the heavy gun battle, the area was cordoned off and senior officials of the Delhi police were present in and around the area to ensure security.
Maseeh Alam, a resident of Jamia Nagar said, "From past half an hour the firing was going on between the police and the terrorists. The dead bodies of two terrorists have been carried away in the police jeep. A policeman was also injured in the shoulder and has been hospitalised. There was a family staying in the house".
The shops have been closed down in Jamia Nagar.
