New Delhi, Sep 18 (UNI) For the second consecutive day today, rain and thundershowers maintained coolness in the air in Delhi, plummeting the mercury to 29.6 Degree Celsius while also causing traffic jams in many areas.

The rain and thundershowers, which followed a heavily overcast sky in the city since this morning, brought down the mercury in the city, from 35 Degree Celsius yesterday, to 29.6 Degree C, four degrees below normal.

Though only 13.1 mm of rainfall was recorded till 2030 hours, it was enough to cool the air in the city.

The rain and the cool winds blowing across the city brought Delhiites some respite from warm and humid weather despite the humidity being at a high level of 98 per cent.

The rains, while cooling the city, also caused traffic jams in many areas.

The minimum temperature was also recorded one degree below normal at 23.1 Degree Celsius.

The Met office has forecast a generally cloudy sky in Delhi during the next 24 hours with one or two spells of rain and thundershowers. They have forecast that some areas may experience heavy spells of rainfall.
