Majhi demands SC status for Machua community

Siddharthnagar, Sep 18 (UNI) Samajwadi Party MLA Shankh Lal Majhi has demanded inclusion of 14 sub-castes of the Machua community into Schedule Caste category.

Mr Majhi, an MLA from Akbarpur constituency, today told UNI that 14 sub-castes of the community, including Gond, Manjhwar, Kharwar and Lureha had already been given SC status, however, 14 others sub castes including Nishad, Kewat, Chai, Godiya, Mallah and Manjhi were kept out of the brackets.

He said the category which had been isolated from the SC reservation were illetrate and leading life in penury. They had suffered a major economic jolt and were lagging behind in every field, he stressed.

''I have met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and handed over a memorandum regarding the same,'' he apprised.
