HIV patient seeks SC directions to govt for medicines
New Delhi, Sep 18 (UNI) An HIV positive patient from Patna has moved the Supreme Court, seeking directions to the government to provide him second-line antiretroviral (ARV) drugs required for his treatment.
A bench comprising Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan and Justices P Sathasivam and J M Panchal, fixed September 29 as the date for hearing of the petition, filed by Punjab Voluntary Health Association for the patient.
The identity of the patient has been kept secret so that he is not isolated in society.
According to the petition, he was denied treatment in Mumbai on the grounds that he was not a Maharashtrian.
The association has demanded that the drug be made available to the petitioner in Bihar.
