Govt appoints consultant for land acquisition for Dankuni project

Kolkata, Sep 18 (UNI) The West Bengal government has appointed a consultant to help begin land acquisition for DLF's township project at Dankuni in Hooghly.

This was informed here today by State Urban Development Minister Ashok Bhattacharjee at the 6th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of Hooghly Chamber of Commerce and Industry (HCCI).

'' We want to start land acquisition soon for Dankuni township project, which has already been delayed and hence appointed the consultant to begin the process,'' Mr Bhattacharjee observed.

The township project, one of the biggest real estate project in the country, is coming up at Dankuni covering over 4,840 acres to be built through public-private partnership over ten years.

Speaking on the occasion, HCCI senior vice president Sandeep Poddar said The Urban Land Ceiling Act and West Bengal Land Reforms Act 2005 were a drag on business growth.

''The ULC Act, which was already abolished by the Union government and many states, should not be continued in West Bengal also,'' Mr Poddar maintained.
