Dawood's brother-in-law's arrest stay plea rejected

Mumbai, Sep 18 (UNI) The Sewri Sessions Court today once again rejected underworld don Dawood Ibrahim's brother-in-law Zanzeb Khan alias Guddu Pathan's plea seeking a stay on his arrest on charges of assaulting a police informer at Shivaji Park here last month, till court grants him permanent bail.

Sessions Judge A Wahule, while rejecting the plea, directed him to remain present on September 25 during the hearing when his anticipatory bail plea will come up for hearing.

Pathan was earlier directed by the court to appear today, but he refrained from the same and his lawyer sought time on the grounds of holy Ramzan month.

The court turned down the request and asked him to remain present in court on the next date as no interim relief had been granted to him and police may arrest him before September 25.

According to the prosecution, on August 4, four assailants, allegedly including Pathan, stabbed the police informer Patel and his friend Machchiwala with knives in their back and stomach, while they were passing from Senapati Bapat Marg.

Patel sustained injuries, while Machchhiwala is currently fighting for life in King Edward Memorial Hospital.

Pathan and his associates allegedly attacked Patel as they believed that he had informed cops about their activities, the prosecution further said.

Patel had played a vital role in solving a corruption case involving crime branch officers, Dawood's sister Haseena Parker and two builders.
