Baba Farid Gold Cup tournament to begin tomorrow

Moga, Sep 18 (UNI) The 17th All India Baba Farid Gold Cup Hockey Tournament will begin here from tomorrow in the Government Barjindera College Hockey stadium at Faridkot.

Thirteen National Level Hockey teams, including the defending Champion, Rail Coach Factory, Kapurthala are participating in the tournament, Parampal Singh, Vice President of Baba Farid Hockey club, said here today.

Deputy Commissioner V K Meena would inaugurate the tournament with the opening match between Ropar Hawks and Jarkhand Namdhari Eleven (Haryana), he said.

According to Parampal Singh following teams participating-BSF Jalandhar, Jammu and Kashmir Police, Eastern Railways Cacutta, Jarkhar Eleven (Namdhari Eleven), Punjab and Sind Bank Academy, Rail Coach Factory Kapurthala, EME Jalandhar, GRPF Delhi, Ropar Hawks, Namdhari Eleven, Corps of Singal, Indian Air Force Delhi, PSEB Patiala.

Sukhbir Singh Badal, MP, and president SAD, would distribute prizes to winners on the concluding day of the tournament on September 23.

Meanhile, Pakistan Hockey Team from Multan has been forced to cancel its visit at the last moment to participate in All India Baba Faridkot Gold Hockey tournament scheduled to start at Faridkot from tomorrow, Parampal Singh informed.

Singh said that he had received information from the Team Manager from Pakistan that visa facilities were denied to the team by the Indian High Commission at Islamabad at the last moment in view of the situation following recent Delhi blasts.
