After rickshaws, cart horses on their way out in Old Delhi?
New Delhi, Sep 18 (UNI) After phasing out of rickshaws, cart horses too could be on their way out from Old Delhi! In what could be seen as a move to decongest Delhi, especially the Old Delhi localities, a proposal to ban plying of cart horses from several areas of the city was today introduced in the Standing committee of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi.
In a proposal moved in the Standing Committee, Mahek Singh, Moolchand Chawla and Sunil Kakkar of the BJP said since Cart Horses, due heir very structure, occupy a lot of road space causing frequent traffic jams, no more licences be provided to their operators.
The proposal was endorsed by the Leader of the Opposition in the MCD House Jaikishen Sharma and was passed unaunimously in the Standing committee.
Speaking at the meeting, Chairman of the Standing Committee Vijender Gupta asked MCD Commissioner K S Mehra to submit a detailed report in this regard to the Standing committee as soon as possible.
Cycle rickshaws are already banned in the Old Delhi areas as per an order of the Delhi High Court.
