13-year-old burnt alive in Vidisha, MP

Vidisha (Madhya Pradesh), Sep 18: In a gruesome incident, a 13 year old girl was burnt alive by two of her classmates and a senior in Vidisha district of Madhya Pradesh on Thursday, Sep 18. She was badly roughed up and burnt alive by her three school mates at her residence following a dispute over some trivial issue, police said on Thursday, Sep 18.

Seventh class student Nidhi Dhakad succumbed to her burns at the government hospital here last night after she was set ablaze by her school mates at Satpada Sarai village in this district of Madhya Pradesh around noon on Wednesday, Sep 17, police said.

She attracted the ire of her school mates when she intervened as the trios- seventh class students Vinita and Deepa and ninth class student Sonam- were found beating up another girl at the premises of the government high school at Satpada, about 30 Km from here.

Irked over her intervention pleading to stop violence, the trios started beating up Nidhi. She, however, managed to escape from their clutches and ran towards her house, about half km away. Her house is located just opposite the police station.

But the frenzied girls followed her and found her alone in the house as her farmer parents had gone out for some work along with her toddler sister. They barged into the house and picked up the kerosene can kept there. They doused Nidhi with kerosene and set her ablaze and fled the spot leaving the victim in flames.

Nidhi's shrieks attracted her neighbours, who doused the flames with a blanket. They soon informed her father, who later got her admitted to the government hospital here, where she was declared dead at 2020 hours.

In her dying declaration, Nidhi charged her school mates as accused. Police has registered cases against them, Superintendent of Police R L Prajapati said.

In a similar incident in Madhya Pradesh's Satna district in January this year, a tenth class student shot dead an 8th class student with an unlicensed pistol at Chorbori village in Singhpur police station area following some heated arguments during recess.

The accused's father was facing a case of attempt to murder.
