12 people run over by speeding bus in Bihar

Sitamarhi, Sep 18 (UNI) As many as 12 people were crushed to death and several others seriously injured by a speeding bus when they were sleeping on the roadside at Tandaspur-Rupauli village under Bathnaha block late last night, police said today.

Superintendent of Police Ajitabh Kumar said a group of villagers, on the occasion of Vishwakarma Pooja, were watching a television programme while some of them fell asleep on the roadside.

In the meantime, the driver of a bus lost control over his vehicle and ran over the people. Twelve people died on the spot while several others were injured in the accident, he said.

The injured were admitted to a local hospital in a serious condition.

Meanwhile, District Magistrate Vijay Kumar rushed to the spot to take stock of the situation.
