MSRDC to implement Mumbai Trans Harbour Link

Mumbai, Sep 17 (UNI) The government has appointed Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) as ''Entrepreneur'' to implement the eight carriageway lane -- Mumbai Trans Harbour Link, costing about Rs 8000 crore.

The length of this bridge will be 22 kms and it will connect Sewri (in Mumbai) to Nhava (in Navi Mumbai). The bridge already reknown as the ''Project of the Century'' will prove to be an important communication link for the upcoming New International Airport in Navi Mumbai.

It also connect the Navi Mumbai Special Economic Zone, JNPT and other industrial units being set up and already existing in Raigad district, the Minister of Public Works, Anil Deshmukh said in a release here today.

As it will connect Mumbai-Pune National Highway, the distance as well as time required to reach Pune and Goa will be reduced to a great extent. This will be the fourth largest sea bridge in the world.

Ms Jean Muller, a consultant of international repute, was appointed on the project with the tender process expected to be completed in four months.

Considering the importance of the project and the need to implement it expeditiously, Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation had decided to employ a dedicated team of senior and experienced engineers for the project, the release added.
