Kargil now ready to export vegetables

Kargil, Sep 17 (UNI) Kargil, which untill recently was dependent on imported vegetables, has now made a major breakthrough and can now export different varieties of vegetables.

This was made possible due to hard work put forth by the farmers with all possible assistance and guidance from the officials of Agriculture department.

Despite minus temperature and other difficulties, the farmers in Kargil have successfully grown about 50 varieties of vegetables against just half a dozen in the past.

This information was given at a three-day vegetable exhibition, which started today in which farmers from different parts of the district participated.

Now the farmers are in a position to supply vegetables to Army and other security force personnel deployed in the area and Line of Control (LOC).

The Executive Councilor for Agriculture HAGI AMIR ALI said the council will extend all possible support to farmers to grow more vegetables.

However, he asked the farmers to use latest technology and best quality of seeds for better corps.
