DAV Shyamli school evacuated following bomb scare

Ranchi, Sep 17 (UNI) Hundreds of students were evacuated from a ed school here today, following a phone call to the Principal warning of possible bomb explosions in the premises.

DAV Shyamli School (Mecon) Principal D R Singh received a ''threat call'' at around 0930 hrs that about four bombs were planted in the school premises.

Team India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni is a alumnus of this school.

The authorities soon swung into action and evacuated hundreds of students.

Senior Superintendent of Police Maninder Singh Bhatia, present on the spot, said anti-bomb squads and sniffer dogs were pressed into service to trace the bombs, adding that priority was given to evacuating the students who were supposed to sit for their exams.

Chaos prevailed as panic-stricken students were suddenly asked to come out of their classrooms and rushed to the nearby community hall.

With the rain continuing to pour, the operation was rendered more difficult, Mr Bhatia said.

The SSP said so far, no bomb was recovered, adding that the security forces would not leave anything to chance.
