Bangalore, Sep 16 (UNI) Karnataka Women and Child Development Minister P M Narendraswamy today said the government would soon come out with new rules to provide protection to women working in night shifts in the state.
Addressing a seminar on women working in night shifts organised by the National Women Commission (NCW) here, he said the government had received numerous complaints about violation of safety rules by multi-national firms and IT companies in the city.
He said he would discuss the matter with Chief Minister B S B S Yeddyurappa and hold a meeting with officials and stake-holders regarding framing of new safety rules for women working in night shifts.
NCW Chairperson Girija Vyas said as women, particularly working in BPO sector faced more threat in Bangalore, than other cities in the country, the state government should immediately come out with a solution to effectively deal with the problem.
She also urged the stake-holders to provide logistic support to women working in night shifts so that they could contribute to the overall progress of the society.
