Consultants help sought to revive sugar mills in Punjab
Chandigarh, Sep 16 (UNI) The Punjab Government has decided to seek the services of a professional private consultant for putting the six closed Cooperative Sugar Mills back on the path to recovery.
There are a total of 15 Cooperative Sugar Mills in the state of which six have beenshut down after incuring heavy losses.
The consultant is expected to share his expertise with the state government for running these six mills. During the tenure of the previous Congress government a decision was taken to sell these six mills to private buyers while the present SAD-BJP government reveresed.
Disclosing this here today, Punjab Sugarfed MD V K Bhalla said that a Cabinet Sub Committee which met on June 4 has already approved the modernisation and setting up of cogeneration plants at the nine operational cooperative mills of the state at their own cost.
Regarding the financial demands of the sugar mills, he clarified that their demands have been sent to their respective (mill) board of directors for their comments and thereafter the government would proceed.
He categorically said that the agitation mode adopted by some of the sugar mill workers was uncalled for keeping in view the financial position of these units.
He advised the workers to cooperate with their respective managements in getting these mills out of the red.
