UP: Stringent action taken to check forest crime

Lucknow, Sep 15: Soon after Uttar Pradesh Forest minister Fateh Bahadur Singh passed directions to control the forest crime, stringent action was taken against the people engaged in illegal felling of trees and running sawmills in Lucknow and Faizabad divisions.

In the last 15 days, 66 such cases were dealt with sternly and two sawmills closed in both the divisions, Chief Forest Conservator Sukhjinder Singh said here today.

Besides, more than Rs 1.45 lakh was recovered as compensation, he added.
