Security tightened in Imphal to check militant activities

Imphal, Sep 15 (UNI) The State police today tightened security here checking all vehicles going towards the main market.

Police even checked bags of school children.

Police also conducted combing operation to check growing militancy as suspected militants recently attacked residence of VIPs and senior government officials.

The residence of Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh was also attacked by cadres of People's Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK) recently. Suspected militants launched bomb attack on the residence of T Hangkhanpao, MLA at Churchandpur yesterday.

Police defused three bombs at different places in the city, DGP Y Joykumar said.

He further said the Raj Bhawan and the official residence of the Chief Minister are highly vulnerable considering the proximity to the busy main roads and NH 39.

There are so many high rise buildings near the two important residence which increase the risks, he added.
