One killed, 50 injured in road accidents

Tiruchirapalli, Sep 15 (UNI) One person was killed and fifty injured in three separate road accidents in this district of Tamil Nadu today.

Police said a 65-year-old man, riding on a two-wheeler was run-over by a lorry at Sethuraman Pillai Colony in the city.

The deceased was identified as Somasundaram of Melakalkandarkottai.

In other accident, 40 people of a marriage party were wounded when their lorry overturned after it collided head-on with another vehicle at Hirudayapuram near Lalgudi near here.

The injured were admitted to Government Headquarters Hospital in the city.

Another accident wounded ten people when a state transport corporation bus and a car collided head-on at suburban Mathur here.

The mishap occurred when the bus was proceeding to Keeranur and hit by oncoming car.

Traffic on the busy Tiruchirapalli-Pudukkottai National Highway was affected for a couple of hours due to the accident, police added.
