No ulterior motive in telecasting stir by Muslims:Sun TV

Chennai, Sep 15 (UNI) The Sun TV Network today clarified that there was no ulterior motive in telecasting an agitation launched by Muslims, protesting against the publication of a cartoon in a Tamil daily.

In a letter to the Inspector of Police, Central Crime Branch, ''Murasoli'' Selvam, Chief Managing Editor and son-in-law of Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, said the complaint lodged by the daily against Sun TV network was totally false and motivated.

Referring to reports that Chief Editor Raja was responsible for the telecast of the protest by Muslims, he said the very fact that the daily had accused an individual, showed that the charge was motivated, Mr Selvam said.

In his explanation to the notice served by the police following a complaint from the Daily, Mr Selvam said the agitation was reported by all newspapers and channels, but Sun TV alone was being targeted.

Instead of taking action aginst the daily for publishing a cartoon, hurting the religious sentiments of people of particular religion, the police was trying to take action against the channel which telecast the agitations. This was nothing but motivated, Mr Selvam said.

The police was not justified in trying to initiate action against the channel, he said.
