NCCI condemns attacks on churches in Karnataka
Shillong, Sep 15 (UNI) The National Council of Churches in India (NCCI) today condemned the desecration of prayer halls in the coastal districts of Mangalore, Udupi and Chikmagalur districts in Karnataka.
At least nine places of worship were attacked by suspected Bajrang Dal activists yesterday, even as two pastors and six others weren injured in simultaneous attacks.
''We condemn the attacks on places of worship,'' NCCI vice-president Rev PBM Basaiawmoit told UNI here.
Urging the Centre to intervene and defuse the prevailing tension in the three affected districts he said appropriate steps should be taken to bring normality by initiating confidence-building measures.
Meanwhile, the Catholic Association, Khasi and Jaintia, in Meghalayaalso condemned the desecration of the churches and prayer halls in Karnataka.
