Settle accident cases quickly: SC Judge
Chennai, Sep 14: Supreme Court Judge Arijit Pasayat has stressed the need for quick settlement of motor vehicle accident cases in the country.
Inaugurating a seminar on 'Concept of Alternative Dispute Resolution - Modern Trends in Commercial Law and Mega Lok Adalat,' here yesterday, Arijit Pasayat said the alternative dispute resolution was gaining importance.
The seminar was jointly organised by the Tamil Nadu State Legal Services Authority and High Court Legal Services Committee.
At present, the courts were overburdened with cases, he said, adding, there should also be a corresponding increase in the strength of judges for quick disposal.
Calling for a mechanism to settle claims, he said the police should give its reports with all details, which could prevent fake claims.
He also urged insurance companies to settle pending claims amicably, instead of waiting for mega Lok Adalats.
Chief Justice of Madras High Court A K Ganguly said through legislation, an alternative dispute resolution had been revived to eliminate a brooding sense of injustice among the people.
