DUJ President gets Appan Menon Award

New Delhi, Sep 14 (UNI) The Delhi Union of Journalists (DUJ) has been awarded the prestigious 'Appan Menon Memorial award' for its singular contribution to the cause of 'freedom of the press' and taking up of the issue relating to the rights of working journalists.

For the first time since its inception in 1996, the media award has been given to a media orgnaisation. The DUJ is the oldest body of journalists in Delhi and many of its members were connected with the freedom struggle of the country and later to non-aligned news-pool, Media Commissions and implementation of Wage Boards for securing fair wages for the working journalists.

The award was received by Mr S K Pande, presidnet of DUJ.

The award was instituted by the freinds of Mr Appan Menon who had worked with UNI, PTI, NDTV, Hindu, Frontline and IPS covering United Nations.He died untimely on 28 June 1996.
