Nine dead, scores injured as five blasts rock Delhi
New Delhi, Sep 13 (UNI) Nine people were killed and scores injured in five bomb blasts which rocked crowded marketplaces in Central and South Delhi this evening.
The five blasts occurred in Karol Bagh, Connaught Place and Greater Kailash areas in close succession in a span of 40 minutes, between 1800 hrs and 1840 hrs, leading to panic in these areas.
Fire Brigade officials said seven people were killed in the blast at the Ghaffar market. Two persons, including a woman, were killed in the blasts in Connaught Place while 17 others were injured, sources said.
The first blast occurred at Gaffar Market in Karol Bagh followed by blasts in the Gopaldas Building and Palika Bazar in Connaught Place and two blasts in Greater Kailash.
Senior police officials, including Delhi Police Commissioner Y S Dadwal, rushed to the scene of the blasts.
Traffic in the areas hit by the blasts was diverted to other areas while mobile networks were jammed.
The Delhi metro, however, was plying as normal.
