Lawyers struck work in Kashmir courts against police, CRPF actions

Srinagar, Sep 13 (UNI) Work in Kashmir courts was paralysed after lawyers stayed away in protest against the alleged excesses by police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) on peaceful processionists yesterday.

The members of the Kashmir Bar Association (KBA) gathered at lower court complex near here and protested against the beating of lawyers and others by the CRPF and police during demonstration at Lal Chowk and other places.

Strongly condemning the killing of two persons and injuring more than one hundred others by the security forces in the valley during peaceful processions, the lawyers demanded immediate action against the CRPF and police personnel responsible for commting excesses.

Official sources said not a single lawyer appeared in any court today.

Raising logans, the lawyers said the boycott of the courts today was to lodge a protest against the ''criminal silence'' of authorities on the killings of innocent people in Kashmir.

Later, KBA office bearers addressed the lawyers and said their struggle will continue till the Kashmir issue is resolved as per the wishes of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
