Conference expresses concern on domestic violence against women

Panaji, Sept 13 (UNI) A one day conference of Judicial officers here today expressed serious concern over the increasing incidents of domestic violence against women and pledged to sensitise stake holders to check the menace.

Experts from the legal fraternity discussed various provisions of the act besides role of counselling and health professionals in this regard.

It also deliberated on the implementation and interpretation of the Act with the use of participatory methodology through an interactive session.

Justice, Ranjana Desai, delivered the key note address at the inaugural session presided over by justice, Nelson Britto, executive president of the authority.

The theme of the Conference was ''Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2006''. The conference was held under the aegis of the Goa State Legal Services Authority (GSLSA) and the State Commission for Women, to facilitate rightful implementation of the legislation.
