'Mahotsavam' to be celebrated after 100 yrs

Kancheepuram, Sep 12: Mahotsavam festival would be celebrated at Kancheepuram Vaikunda Perumal temple after 100 years on Sep 14. Official sources said Thirumangai Azhwar, one of the famous twelve Azhwars offered his prayer and 'Mangalasasanam' in the temple. The story goes around that since the Almigty offers Vaikuntam to his devotees the temple was called as 'Vaikuna Perumal'. The temple was built during the sixth century by king Parameswara Varman.

Devotees from all over India are expected to attend the festival.

Efforts were on to tighten the security, police said.
