Customs collection up 8.9% in Aug; excise up 1.2%
New Delhi, Sep 12 (UNI) Customs and excise collection for the period April to August was up by 10.5 per cent, with customs recording a hefty growth rate of 17.8 per cent over the same period last year and excise revenues having a sluggish growth rate of 3.7 per cent during the same period.
Service tax colllection for the period April-July was up by a robust 24.9 per cent.
For the month of August customs recorded a growth rate of 8.9 per cent as compared to the same month a year ago , excise was up by 1.2 per cent and customs and excise put together up by 4.8 per cent.
The figure for customs and excise during April to August stood at Rs 93,856 crores, for excise it was Rs 46,122 crores and for customs it was Rs 47,734 crores.
The figure for the month of August were as follows: Customs Rs 9,484 crores; Excise Rs 10,013 crores and Customs and Excise together Rs 19,497 crores.
For service tax the figure from April to July was Rs 18,787 crores; and for the month of July it was Rs 3,876 crores.
