BSP wins panchayat by-election in Bareilly, Banda

Bareilly, Sep 12 (UNI) Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) today bagged the Bareilly and Banda district panchayat president seats.

In Bareilly, the seat fell vacant after the SP candidate Mrs Saroj was removed from the post through the no-confidence motion initiated against her after BSP swung in power in UP, officials sources said.

BSP candidate Kesar Singh received 43 votes, whereas the opposition SP party candidate Arvind Kumar got only five votes in today's by-election.

In Banda, Shakeel Ali won the district panchayat president post with 22 votes, whereas SP backed Poonam Yadav got only three votes.

The post fell vacant after Kushlakshvaj Singh of SP resigned the post.

In 2005, panchayat elections were held where SP had bagged the seats at both the districts.
