Angadia workers pay Rs 15 lakh penalty on undeclared silver
Mumbai, Sep 12 (UNI) Officials of the Vigilance Department today recovered Rs 15 lakh as penalty from Angadias for not declaring silver goods, worth around Rs 70 lakh, that they had brought from Gujarat.
The Angadias brought the goods from Gujarat this morning. They had the goods cleared by declaring them as ''assorted'' goods after payment of octroi. However, the vigilance officials became suspicious. The officials, led by Officer on Special Duty, V Radha, chased them and intercepted them at Bhuleshwar.
After checking the goods, the officers discovered that the ''assorted'' goods were silver and silver articles, worth around Rs 70 lakh, which were seized, a release said here.
However, considering the value of the goods and facing the risk of being detained, the Angadias themselves came forward and paid the due octroi duty with a penalty of Rs 15 lakh. They were allowed to proceed thereafter.
