Union Cabinet approves extradition treaty with Iran

New Delhi, Sept 11 : The Union Cabinet today gave its approval for the signing and ratification of the Extradition Treaty between India and Iran.

The treaty would provide a legal framework for seeking extradition of terrorists, economic offenders, and other criminals from and to Iran.

Moreover, the Cabinet also gave its approval for signing of the 'Agreement between India and Iran on Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters'.

The agreement will provide a broad legal framework for bilateral cooperation with Iran in the investigation and prosecution of crime, tracing, restraining or forfeiting of the proceeds and instruments of crime.
