Indo-US Jewelry Business Conference concludes

Mumbai, Sep 11 (UNI) The second Indo-US Jewelry Business Relationship Development Conference, organized by Gem&Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC), that concluded here today proved to be a significant platform for stakeholders of the industry.

The Conference, which was sponsored by Rio Tinto Diamonds, was held over four days from September 8-11. It constituted two days of panel discussions, keynote speeches and 45-minute speed dates between eight prominent US retailers and wholesalers and eleven major Indian jewellery manufacturers.

Speaking at a press meet at the conclusion of the conference, Sanjay Kothari, Chairman, GJEPC said ''Despite the difficult economy, the quality of this year's conference sponsors and retailers are very satisfactory.'' ''India is committed to growing its jewellery business and this conference was one of our key initiatives to support the business with US. We salute the retailers that have the courage and vision to keep developing new manufacturing sources and know that our sponsors have both surprised and delighted their US guests with highly-saleable, fashionable products, that not only delivers a good working margin, but also provides them with an excellent value for sale to their customers,'' he added.

Craig Underwood, President of American Gem Society (AGS), and principal of Underwood's Fine Jewellery said, this trip to India was one of the best business events I have ever had the opportunity to attend.

''I found it to be both interesting and eye opening. I learned facts about the Indian manufacturing community that I was not previously aware,'' he added.
