Govt working on electronic disbursement of wages under NREGS
New Delhi, Sep 11 (UNI) A pilot project by Department of Posts to disburse wages through an electronic system to those given employment under the UPA government's flagship programme, National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS), will become operational in some Orissa district by the end of this year, government said today.
The project is being devised in collaboration with National Informatics Centre and Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd, the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology said.
Over 70,000 post offices in 21 states disbursed about Rs 2,900 crore to 1.47 crore workers under NREGS till July-end, the Ministry added.
