Fire ravaged Sarvana Stores proprietors in police custody
Chennai, Sep 11 (UNI) A city court today remanded in four days police custody, the three proprietors of Saravana Stores, who had surrendered yesterday in connection with the fire mishap in the shop that claimed two lives on September 1.
The propreitors of the stores, S Yogarathinam, S Rajarathinam and Y Shanmugadurai, had surrendered before the Saidapet 17th Metropolitan Magistrate yesterday after police launched a manhunt to nab them after their anticipatory bail plea was dismissed by the Madras High Court.
When the petition filed by the police yesterday came up for hearing today, Magistrate Arunachalam granted police custody of the accused for four days.
The Magistrate directed the police to produce the accused before the court on September 15.
Two employees of the shop, situated on the busy Ranganathan street, were charred to death in the fire that destroyed crores of rupees worth consumer durables, textile, household and office items, and furniture stocked in the cramped six-storeyed building.
