Nitish demands special package from the Centre

Patna, Sep 10 (UNI) After an extensive rescue and relief operation in the flood ravaged North Bihar, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today demanded special package from Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for rehabilitation and reconstruction of Kosi region.

Mr Kumar told newspersons here that he would call on the Prime Minister in a day or two to place the demand for the special package, the state was in dire need of which for rebuilding of the Kosi region which was under the catastrophic floods.

A draft was being prepared for the special rehabilitation and reconstruction package after calculating the extent of damage, he said adding that Bihar should get immediate help from the Centre.Mr Kumar said he would submit the draft proposal before the Prime Minister at New Delhi.

To a query regarding the judicial probe into the situations leading to the breach in Kushah embankment on river Kosi, Mr Kumar said that a lot of confusion had been created from several corners.

To purge off the confusions and with the motive to bring out the truth, a judicial probe had been instituted under the commission of inquiry act, he said.

Mr Kumar said that the name of the judge for the commission would be decided shortly and stated that every one should cooperate in the inquiry.

The Chief Minister reiterated that the breach in the embankment resulting into the catastrophic floods in North Bihar was an international matter and said that the truth behind it would expose ''several faces.'' UNI RS ADG DB1822
