NCP urges ban on selling fertile lands
Puducherry, Sep 10(UNI) The Nationalist Congress Party(NCP) in Puducherry today urged the territorial administration to ban the sale of fertile lands.
In a statement here, NCP president G Sundaramurthy said the Central government had introduced a Law to this effect. However, in Puducherry, agricultural lands were being sold indiscriminately and NRIs and people from other states were purchasing it, posing a threat to agriculture here.
He said the administration should impose a ban on the sale of agricultural land through an Ordinance by convening Assembly session.
He said he would meet Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar in New Delhi and submit a memorandum in this regard.
